William Jay (son of David) of Loudoun Co. VA & Mongomery Co. MD
William Jay, born 1767, was traditionally recorded in the Jay Family Index as a son of a William Jay and Lydia Gates; however, this has now been discovered incorrect. In depth research of Loudoun Co. VA and Montgomery Co. MD records show him to be the son of a David Jay who was born ca 1740. However, he was married to a LYDIA. So it seems that the information provided to Eli Jay that eventually worked its way into the JFI was partially correct.

Of particular interest, this David Jay is listed and recorded as David GEE on many occasions prior to 1800.

His oldest son was William Jay who married Anne King in Frederick Co. MD (across the river from Loudoun) in 1803. It does appear that the couple lived in Loudoun Co. VA for a time based on deed record research.

Sons Joseph Jay (b.1814 to Iowa), Jonathan King Jay (b.1818 to Minnesota) and Stephen H. Jay (b.1820 to Minnesota) provide the basis for most of the living male descendants. Our DNA donor descends from Stephen H. Jay. Most tests from other sons would be helpful to better define this relationship.

This line is closely related to the Bedford Co. PA Jays by DNA evidence.
