I descend from Sarah Jay and Nathan Wright. It is exciting to know that both their fathers are Proven Patriots of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Both William Jay and John Wright were certified on the basis of "furnishing supplies." Since the families had Quaker roots, they probably dd not wish to fight physically in the War.

I have been told all my life that I have Native American blood. Well, I took the DNA test through Ancestry.com and was very surprised at the results: Not a drop. The test showed I was 89% UK. It also showed 3% Greek-Italian, which I suspect is the reason for my dark hair, dark eyes, and olive skin.

I just received a report I had done with an Ancestry genealogist regarding the Jesse Jay--->George Simeon Jay--->Jesse C. Jay---->Jessie Lee Jay---->Ted Ray Jay line. I am trying to figure out how to get it on this member webpage. George Simeon Sr. had three wives: Ellender Walton Jay, Mary (?) who was the mother of Jesse C. Jay (as well as Mary F. Jay and George Simeon Jr.) and Susanna Miller Dean. George Simeon Sr. was born in S.C., moved to Texas with Mary and the three children (see below). First wife Elleder died shortly after child birth (leaving a daughter, Elizabeth Ellender Jay) and then he married and had the three children in Georgia with Mary (children: Mary F. Jay, Jesse C. Jay and George Simeon Jr. The George Simeon Jays migrated to NE Texas.(perhaps Red River County) and after Mary's death in 1847 in Red River, Texas, George Simeon Sr. married Susanna Dean in Texas. Susanna Dean had 8 Dean children and was a widow (with land) when they married. Lamar County land records. Jesse C. Jay, son of George Simeon and second wife of his father, Mary (no maiden name known) married his half sister, daughter of Susanna Dean Jay, and had two children with her: Mary Susanna b. 1856 and George Simeon III in 1859. Jesse C. and Susanna divorced (1863?). Susanna Miller Dean Jay first a widow then a divorcee, then married Asa Henson and had four more children. Jesse C. Jay married his second wife Sallie Reed in 1866 in Fannin County Texas. Jesse C. and Sallie Reed Jay had 5 children in Fannin County and then moved to Eastland/Comanche County Texas between the birth of their youngest,Jennie G. Jay, in 1875 in Fannin Co. and Jesse C.'s death in 1878 when he was driving cattle from Comanche County to Ft. Worth for sale. Jesse C. died on the bank of the Brazos River and is buried near Granbury, Tx. Jesse. C. Jay and Sallie Reed Jay ("Old Mother") had five children: William Martin Jay, John Thomas Jay, Mary Francis Jay(died in infancy), Jessie Lee Jay and Jennie G. Jay. Jennie G. Jay married Williams Melton Koonce but died at age 26, leaving Jay Koonce a child. All the children of Jesse C. and Sallie Reed Jay moved with them to central Texas around the now ghost town of Sipe Springs, Texas. Jessie Lee Jay, born 1872 in Fannin County to Jesse C. and Mary Jay died 1935 in Sipe Springs, Texas. Jessie Lee Jay married my grandmother, Annie Madeline Boykin and had four children, one of whom was my father, Ted R. Jay born in 1898. Hope this helps someone out there. Jo Ann

Very interesting reading through the information available via your association! I am from a line of the Jay Family that settled in Manchester from Wales mid-19th Century. It is our understanding that the Jay line I am part of is directly descended from those who settled in Wales after 1066. It would be interesting to know if anyone has any information on this very early lineage.

She married my 3rd GGrandfather, William Coate, Sr. From that my mother was Thelma Jean Coats who married my Father George James Ferbert. My paternal grandfather, Lester Jay, and grandmother, Grace Brown, were both from the Indiana, Iowa, Ohio areas. Their children were Bernard, Ruth, Louise (Locie) who died at age 14; another sister, Elmer, Alfred (my father), and James (who became an MD). My father told me back in 1967 that his family came from England and Ireland but never gave me details. The one time I met my grandmother Grace(about 1968) she told me that someone in the family was doing geneaology but didn't know who. Census information gave me other Jay names but i'm unsure if they are really my line. Do I have any possible cousins out there??

I am the youngest daughter of Mary Francis Bowers Jay and Dr. Gilbert Mortimer Marquis De Lafayette Jay III. I am married to Kimberly Scott Porter. We live in Georgetown KY. I have an older sister Helen Renee Jay Webb and an older sister Atara Sue Jay Hunter. I have an older brother Charles Bowers Jay and his deceased twin, Gilbert IV. My father is now deceased. My Mother is still alive and doing well at almost 94. My father had a (deceased) brother Edwin Jay (uncle Ned) and he has two sons John and Jeff. I am no longer a subscriber to Ancestry.com but have a family tree in there I added several years ago. My father's uncle was Wendall Jay (we called him Uncle Babe) and he was married to Aunt Louise. I know he had a son name Tom - and I believe Tom had a daughter named Wendy. I would love any information you might have about an ancestor, Bearsheba (Bethsheba?) Pugh. I believe she was Iroquois but am not sure. At one time there was a family legend that there was a 1000 reward for anyone in the Jay family who named their child after her.

I have recently started back completing the genealogy for my family. I have a line of Jay's which goes back to Thomas Jay b January 28, 1779 and d April 4, 1866. I believe his father was actually in Bedford County. My proof is an Orphan's Court record which documents a "William Jay" who petition the Orphan's Court as a minor to appoint a guardian for him because his Father Thomas Jay died in 1815. The date of the Orphan Court Record in Bedford County, PA is dated April 4, 1815. It reads, "April 4, 1815, came into court William Jay, minor son above the age of 14 years of Thomas Jay, late of Southhampton Township, deceased, and chose William Davis as his guardian. Court approved. I also believe David Jay who is cited on many websites from Bedford County PA was also a son of this Thomas, David being born 1791 and died February 27, 1818. I would be interested in contact from other Jay descendants from this line to contact me. I live in Bedford County, PA

I'm very interested in the JFA. The entries I have read on the Jay Family Association site are about the northern Jays, I was wondering if there has been any research on the Southern Jays? John Jay (B: 04/18/1771 in North Carolina & D: 04/18/1845 in Monroe County, AL) is my 4-Great Grandfather. And so down the line. I'm still researching more his parents and soforth. Very interested in the JFA. Thanks! Tam

Hello, I am from the line starting with my father James Edgar Jay, then Ody Edgar Jay, Jr., Ody Edgar Jay, Sr., Edward Jay, William M. Jay, David Jay, Jr., David Jay, Sr. and William Jay. These are my direct Grandfathers. I got lost because I have two William Jay's, one B 1720 in Winchester, Frederick, VA. and one B 1720 MD. After that, I have John Jay, Thomas Jay and Thomas Jay B 1617 Boston, Suffolk, MA. I was told today by Sue Coffelt that John Jay is not the Father of William Jay? Does anyone know this line. PS..Bev Martin is my fathers first cousin and the current editor of this website.

Emily Spry Burleigh's obituary of 1887, mentions James Burleigh "and his family, the Jays." I also have an old letter from George Jay, Jr., addressed to John Burleigh, addressing him as "Dear Brother."
